(unemployment, no car, not owner-occupied, overcrowding) log-transforms
the first and last column (Townsend et al. 1988); Carstairs (overcrowding,
male unemployment, no car, low social class) uses raw percentages
(Carstairs and Morris 1991); "sum" any columns.
